In March 2008, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church’s leadership recognized the community need to address the hurt caused by mental and emotional concerns. The creation of the St. Luke’s Center for Counseling and Life Enrichment filled this need.
Several years earlier tragedy befell church members Bill and Susan Finnegan when an automobile accident took the life of their eldest son, Nick, and his dear friend Scotty Caven. During the next five years the Finnegans experienced much needed support from family, friends and counselors, which helped them grieve the loss of their son.
Because of this support, the Finnegans found faith to move forward as a family and wanted to give similar support to others. As a way to remember their son and to help foster for others a support system similar to their own, the Finnegans partnered with the Center in 2009 to create the Nick Finnegan Ministry of the St. Luke’s Center for Counseling and Life Enrichment. In May 2011, it became the Nick Finnegan Counseling Center (NFCC).
Along with the Finnegan family, NFCC raises awareness about cost-effective resources available and encourages others to embrace acceptance about asking for help. With a commitment to healing brokenness, the Finnegans believe every time a life is changed by the work of NFCC that Nick’s compassion and love for others is remembered.
